The sport's pro ranks took root in the 1970s when the likes of Shirley "Cha Cha" Muldowney, "Big Daddy" Don Garlits, Tom "Mongoose" McEwen and Don "The Snake" Prudhomme popularized the most American of pastimes, drag racing, on ABC's Wide World of Sports.

Today's stars include Funny Car icon John Force and young Cattle Farmer Matt Hagan; popular and charismatic Top Fueler drivers Tony Schumacher and Antron Brown in the U.S. Army and Matco Tools Dragsters; four-time world champion Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and three-time world champs Andrew Hines and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle).
